Electronics/Embedded Systems Engineer (Full-Time)

Prism Controls, based in Lowell, MI applies technology to make farmers more efficient by providing customized control systems and solutions for egg production in North America. Prism Controls’ computerized data collection, reporting and control systems help advance the egg industry while providing our staff with an environment rich in entrepreneurial innovation, challenge and purpose.

Prism Controls is located in a new 15,000 square foot facility in Lowell, MI, a short drive from Grand Rapids, MI.

We are looking for a candidate that embodies these core values with the following job functions in mind:

• Develop and deploy embedded control systems, components, and software based on engineering principles and involvement.
• Responsible for project success whether project leader or as part of a project team.
• Interpret specifications and perform technical calculations supporting design decisions.
• Work in a small team extending and enhancing our agricultural PLC and sensing platform.
• Design IIoT technologies for food production
• Create and finalize circuit and software designs to meet project requirements.
• Create customer documentation such as user manuals, programming diagrams, network diagrams, and electrical drawings.
• Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
• Coordinate certification of electronic components according to industry requirements.

Requirements:

• Proficient with C/C++ development tools.
• Proficient with circuit design software tools and processes.
• Strong fundamental knowledge of embedded system design and its application in automated industrial designs including specification of vision, power, sensor, inspection, and communications systems.
• Experience with firmware development.
• Strong knowledge of deterministic, realtime, and mission critical systems architecture.
• Experience with sensing and communication protocols
• Efficiently organize and plan work tasks to meet company goals.
• Critical thinking with exceptional problem-solving skills, able to work independently and in team
• Proactive, resourceful & highly motivated with good communication skills and ability to work in high output environment.
• Ability to balance multiple projects.
• Travel as required to support projects.

Skills/Experience desired, but not necessary.

• Deep learning concepts (Including edge based computing and machine vision)
• Experience with Object Oriented Programming: eg. C++, Java, HTML, Basic, Delphi (Object Oriented Pascal)
• Database Architecture
• Signal processing and feature extraction
• Mechanical and electrical aptitude, especially as applied to machinery, automation, and/or agriculture
• Multi tier distributed computing and processing
• PLC’s, DDC, or other programmable control platforms and/or methodologies
• Understanding of Continuous Develop Environments and associated concepts

Team skills

• Daily interaction within an agile development team
• Work with remote teams (language and time zone flexibility required)
• Occasional travel possible
